MARRIAGE LICENSE INFORMATION FOR ST. THOMAS, USVI
GENERAL INFORMATION
1) No blood test; physical examination or residency is required.
2) If you are divorced, a raised sealed certified copy or original of the final divorce, signed by the judge from the Court in which you were divorced is required prior to the issuance of your license. (Substitutes such as; copies of judgments or petitions are not acceptable. Please contact your Court.)
3) If you are widowed, a certified copy of your spouses’ death certificate with the raised seal or original must be submitted. (All original will be returned upon request.)
MARRIAGE LICENSE AND APPLICATION FORM,
1) A form will be provided to you for completion. Type or print (very clearly).
2) Do not abbreviate any names.
3) If you have been divorced, please include the complete date of the divorce.
4) Upon completion of the form, please return via supplied fax number.
5) We will then type the documents for the bride and groom and send the documents to them for signatures. After signatures, the documents must be immediately returned to our office.
All documents must be received no later than three weeks prior to the wedding date.
Any documents received within the three weeks may not guarantee a legal marriage license.
COURT HOURS
1) Court hours are Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm and Saturday 10:00am -12:00pm by appointment only, excluding Sundays and Federal and local holidays. Sunday court appearances are available for an additional $150 fee.
2) Upon arrival all applicants must appear before the Clerk of the Court during Court hours in person with proper ID in hand. (Driver’s license, passport, or birth certificate.)
3) Weddings can be coordinated on Sunday and certain holidays. The Clerk of the Court will open on Sunday and specific holidays for an additional fee of $150. Please check with our office to verify that the court will open for licensing if you are planning to be married on a holiday.
E) ACTING AS YOUR LIAISON
1) Once the couple is "sworn in at the Court," your legal VI documents will be released for marriage.
2) The on-island coordinator will arrange transportation to and from the Court, an appointment with the Clerk of the Court, along with all Court filing and in-house processing.
3) We will notify you in advance of any discrepancies, so please try to file on time. Our two-week deadline assures us of timeliness to the Court and guarantees you a legal ceremony.
4) A complimentary copy of your marriage license is then mailed directly to your home within 60 days.
